Wheatland is a former borough in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, United States, along the Shenango River. The population was 583 at the 2020 census. [ 4 ] On January 1, 2024, Wheatland merged with the neighboring city of Hermitage after residents of both communities voted to approve the merger in November 2022.
Wheatland is located off Pennsylvania Route 23 (Marietta Avenue) in Lancaster Township, about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) from the center of the city of Lancaster. It is situated on 10 acres (40,470 m 2 ) of land, which it shares with Lancaster County's historical society, at the intersection of Marietta Avenue and President Avenue.

The township is home to President James Buchanan's summer residence, Wheatland, located at 1120 Marietta Avenue. The 1828 Federal-style mansion is a National Historic Landmark [9] and has been restored to reflect the period of Buchanan's occupancy in the mid-19th century. Wheatland is featured within the township's seal. [10]

Farrell was designated a financially distressed municipality in 1987 by the state of Pennsylvania. In 2004 local politicians proposed the creation of Shenango Valley City, consisting of Farrell as well as Hermitage, Sharpsville, Sharon, and Wheatland with the issue being put on the ballot in the form of a referendum.
