D grade is a failing grade, corresponding to work receiving less than 50%. The academic grading system in Latvia is using ten-point scale, where "10" (Latvian: desmit) is the highest achievable grade, and "1" (Latvian: viens) is awarded for extremely poor performance. The minimal passing grade is "4" (Latvian: Ĩetri). In most universities, to get the "4", you must acquire at least 50% correct on the work you hand in.
