The Davao City National High School, first known as the Davao Provincial High School had its humble beginning in 1922. Housed in a Nipa hut at Magallanes Street, it opened its doors to 67 eager students with Mr. Dominador Fernandez as Officer-in-Charge and later by Mr. Adolfo Casolan as Principal with three teachers to help him guide the sixty seven (67) students who were enrolled at the time.
The school moved one step further by offering high school education in 1971. By 1973, the school was officially named Davao Christian High School. The first batch of 36 high school students graduated in 1975. School population exceeded 1000 by 1982. The Student Council was organized in 1984. The DCHS Alumni Association was organized in 1987.

It was originally named Digos Junior High School. It started with just two humble nipa huts at Rizal Avenue, Digos, Davao del Sur. The school principal, then, was the late Crispin Tolentino. There were only nine teachers to help him guide the 250 students from 1946 to 1967. Two years later, the name was changed to Digos Provincial High School.
