Donald James Yarmy (April 13, 1923 – September 25, 2005), known professionally as Don Adams, was an American actor and stand-up comedian. [1] In his five decades on television, he was best known as bumbling Maxwell Smart (Secret Agent 86) in the television situation comedy Get Smart (1965–1970, 1995), which he also sometimes directed and wrote.
It starred Don Adams (who was also a director on the series) as agent Maxwell Smart (Agent 86), Barbara Feldon as Agent 99, and Edward Platt as The Chief. Henry said that they created the show at the request of Daniel Melnick [1] to capitalize on James Bond and Inspector Clouseau, "the two biggest things in the entertainment world today". [2]
