Mustang District (Nepali: मुस्ताङ जिल्ला Listen ⓘ) (from the Tibetan möntang (Wylie: smon-thang), "fertile plain") is one of the eleven districts of Gandaki Province and one of seventy-seven districts of Nepal which was a Kingdom of Lo-Manthang that joined the Federation of Nepal in 2008 after abolition of the Shah dynasty.
Kagbeni is a village in the Baragung Muktikshetra rural municipality of Mustang District (Upper Mustang) of the Himalayas, in Nepal, located in the valley of the Kali Gandaki River. At the time of the 2011 Nepal census , it had a population of 555 people. [ 1 ]
The rural municipality was named Bahrachhetra Muktinath at the time of establishment of this rural municipality. The rural municipality had to named Varagung Muktichhetra but by mistake it spelled to Bahragaun Muktichhetra, so in the first meeting of this rural council on 17 July 2017, it was decided to send a request to related office to make the corrections in the name of the rural municipality.
In Kagbeni a major tributary named Johng Khola, Kak Khola or Krishnaa descends from Muktinath. The river then flows southward through a steep gorge known as the Kali Gandaki Gorge , or Andha Galchi , between the mountains Dhaulagiri , elevation 8,167 m (26,795 ft) to the west and Annapurna , elevation 8,091 m (26,545 ft) to the east.
The route passes though Midhills and Himalayan mountains. Main locality includes Palpa, Syangja, Parbat, Baglung and Muktinath.
