Frankfurt shows being less than to London right now in October. See "continental.com" or a good one to check all airlines is "kayak.com".

If Icelandair services your departure city (like they do Seattle), you can fly into most major European cities via Reykjavik, and it is usually much cheaper than major European airlines.
What is cheapest European city to fly into? Generally though, the big hubs with direct connections to the US are the cheapest, London, Paris, Copenhagen (SAS), Dublin, etc. Generally speaking Tues/Weds are the cheapest days to fly, but check them all, you never know. If you fly anywhere else in Europe, factor in the cost of going from that city to one of the cities you want to visit. And remember, traveling in one direction, withoug doubling back, will also save you ...

The conventional wisdom here is a half day is lost. So 3 cities in 6 to 7 days might be a little aggressive time wise.
Rome (FCO) is the only nonstop destination in Italy. In recent years, I have taken multiple non-stop flights from Philadelphia to Europe (Rome, Venice, and Paris). The plane used was always an Airbus A330, which has 2 aisles and a 2-4-2 configuration.
