Indoor-outdoor thermometer. An indoor–outdoor thermometer is a thermometer that simultaneously provides a measurement of the indoor and outdoor temperatures. The outdoor part of the thermometer requires some kind of remote temperature sensing device. Conventionally, this was done by extending the bulb of the thermometer to the remote site.
A temperature variation of only one degree in the range between 15 °C (59 °F) and 30 °C (86 °F), or a pressure variation of 3 mmHg, was calculated to provide energy for two days' operation for an early prototype, [3] while for a more recent Atmos 540 model the corresponding value has been computed as 4.3 days per °C.
In the years that followed, the company grew and began making the entire clock unit. Lux Clock produced clocks until 1941, at which time they made war related products. Clock production resumed after the war, and in 1954 a plant was established in Lebanon, Tennessee. By 1959 a Lux Time Ltd. facility was built in Ontario, Canada.
The timer may switch equipment on, off, or both, at a preset time or times, after a preset interval, or cyclically. A countdown time switch switches power, usually off, after a preset time. A cyclical timer switches equipment both on and off at preset times over a period, then repeats the cycle; the period is usually 24 hours or 7 days.
In laboratory settings atomic clocks had replaced quartz clocks as the basis for precision measurements of time and frequency, resulting in International Atomic Time. By the 1980s, quartz technology had taken over applications such as kitchen timers , alarm clocks , bank vault time locks , and time fuzes on munitions, from earlier mechanical ...
Programming the morning temperature to be 21° C at 7:00 a.m., for instance, ensures that the temperature would then be 21 °C, whereas less sophisticated programmable thermostat would simply start working toward 21° at 7:00 a.m. Thus a PID controller sets the time at which the system should be activated in order to reach the desired ...
