The 2024–25 Biathlon World Cup – Stage 4 was the fourth event [1] of the season and was held in Oberhof, Germany, from 6 to 12 January 2025.The event consisted of two individual competitions and two mixed relay races.

The Biathlon World Cup is a top-level biathlon season-long competition series. It has been held since the winter seasons of 1977–78 for men and 1982–83 for women. The women's seasons until 1986–87 season were called the European Cup, although participation was not restricted to Europeans.
The International Biathlon Union (IBU) was founded in London on 2 July 1993. This occurred when the National Biathlon Union in London/Heathrow decided to exclude biathlon from the World federation UIPMB (Union de Pentathlon Moderne et Biathlon), which it had been part of since 1953, [3] forcing biathlon to form their own international federation.
Malte Stefansson has been involved in biathlon since the age of 11, but initially competed as a junior in national cross-country skiing events. His best result in this discipline came in late 2017 in Idre, where he secured a third-place finish. By 2018, he had also participated in two FIS races.
Lucas Fratzscher competed in his first international races during the IBU Cup 2016/17 in Obertilliach. In the same winter, he also participated in the Biathlon European Championships, with a 13th place in the sprint in Martell being his best result of the season. In the following season, he couldn't improve this result.

[3] In Norway, the biathlon was until 1984 a branch of Det frivillige Skyttervesen, an organization set up by the government to promote civilian marksmanship in support of national defence. In Norwegian, the biathlon is called skiskyting (literally ski shooting). [4]
