Julia Eccleshare MBE (born 1951) is a British journalist and writer on the subject of children's books. She has been Children's Books editor for The Guardian newspaper for more than ten years, at least from 2000. She is also an editorial contributor and advisor for the website Love Reading 4 Kids. She is a recipient of the Eleanor Farjeon Award.
Look and Read is a BBC Television programme for primary schools, aimed at improving children's literacy skills. [1] The programme presents fictional stories in a serial format, the first of which was broadcast in 1967 and the most recent in 2004, making it the longest-running nationally broadcast programme for schools in the United Kingdom.
Julia Catherine Donaldson CBE (née Shields; born 16 September 1948) [4] [1] is an English writer and playwright, and the 2011–2013 Children's Laureate.She is best known for her popular rhyming stories for children, especially those illustrated by Axel Scheffler, which include The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom and Stick Man.
The Divide, her first book for children, was published in 2003. She was a keynote speaker at Accio 2005, the Harry Potter conference, and spoke at a children's book conference in Ukraine in 2007. She has appeared at other literary events, including the Cheltenham and Edinburgh festivals.
Words and Pictures is a British literacy educational television programme as part of the BBC Schools strand from 31 March 1970 to 16 March 2007. The programme is a spin-off from Look and Read, which was already providing the same type of practice and encouragement for older children. It is aimed at primary school children aged between 5 and 7.
Richard Platt (born 15 April 1953) is a British writer of nonfiction and information books and multimedia works, primarily for children. Platt was born in Northumberland , England. He started writing when aged 27 with how-to articles and books about photography.
