Hardin was the 15th Kentucky county in order of formation. [4] The county is named for Col. John Hardin, a Continental Army officer during the American Revolution and a brother of the Capt. William Hardin who founded Hardinsburg. [5] Courthouse fires destroyed county records in 1864 and again in 1932. The present courthouse dates from 1934. [6]

Sonora is located in southeastern Hardin County at (37.525783, -85.894373 The city is concentrated around the intersection of Kentucky Route 84 and Kentucky Route 720, with its municipal boundaries stretching eastward to the Hardin-LaRue county line.
Muldraugh is a home rule-class city in Meade and Hardin counties in the U.S. state of Kentucky. It lies on U.S. Route 31W north of Elizabethtown. The city limits are completely encompassed by the Fort Knox army base. The population was 1,040 as of the 2020 census. [4] The city is part of the Elizabethtown–Fort Knox Metropolitan Area.
