Ratlam is a city in the northwestern part of the Malwa region in Madhya Pradesh state of India. The city of Ratlam lies 480 metres (1,570 ft) above sea level . It is the administrative headquarters of Ratlam district , which was created in 1947 after the independence of India. [ 4 ]
The school was founded in 1873 by the Indian Province of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambéry. It is administered by the Sisters of St. Joseph's Convent, Jabalpur in accordance to the general rules governing the above congregation. Saint Joseph is the patron Saint of the school. Currently, Sr. Navya is the Principal of the school.

The house and school bear the name of Saint Joseph. Bankipore, as the first foundation, was considered the mother house of the Institute in India. St. Joseph's was the only convent between Calcutta and Agra at that time. [8] Initially, in addition to the boarding and day school, there were two orphanages on the school campus.
The motto of the school is 'Rise High'. St. Joseph's primary school was started in the year 1910. It was upgraded to middle school in the year 1920. English medium school was started later and they were upgraded to high school in 1944. In 1948 it became one of the fewest schools to be upgraded to higher secondary level. [citation needed
