Dyscalculia has also been associated with Turner syndrome [12] and people who have spina bifida. [13] Mathematical disabilities can occur as the result of some types of brain injury, in which case the term acalculia is used instead of dyscalculia, which is of innate, genetic or developmental origin. The exercise has fourteen different rules. According to Arrowsmith Young, this exercise targets problems at the juncture of the occipital, parietal, and temporal lobes areas on the left side of the brain which can produce a tendency to reverse the sequence of letters in a word and make it difficult to parse syntax and read an analog clock. [16]
Acalculia is associated with lesions of the parietal lobe (especially the angular gyrus) and the frontal lobe and can be an early sign of dementia.Acalculia is sometimes observed as a "pure" deficit, but is commonly observed as one of a constellation of symptoms, including agraphia, finger agnosia and right-left confusion, after damage to the left angular gyrus, known as Gerstmann syndrome.
LBLD consists of dyscalculia which comprises the reading of numbers sequentially, learning the time table, and telling time; [6] dyslexia; and difficulties associated with written language such as trouble learning new vocabulary, letters and alphabets.
Types of learning disorders include reading , arithmetic (dyscalculia) and writing . [7] The unknown factor is the disorder that affects the brain's ability to receive and process information. This disorder can make it problematic for a person to learn as quickly or in the same way as someone who is not affected by a learning disability.
These physical exercises are thought to strengthen cognitive skills. [ 2 ] By addressing the processing of information , focusing issues, and memory skills, as well as academics, the educational therapist is better able to treat the underlying problem of the learning issue that is keeping the student from succeeding in the academic arena.
