A 2010 storyline tied the two series closer still, with a Case Closed story introducing Chikage Kuroba's identity as the Phantom Lady immediately followed by a Magic Kaito story explaining her past (as well as the context of Kaito's actions in the present-day).

An old lady is found dead after a pot falls on her from the top of a building. Officer Chiba is sent to investigate, and Conan helps him figure out who the culprit it really is. The news, of course, comes to a shock to Amy, who just happens to look up the culprit.
Conan deciphers Phantom Thief's note with ease, and finds him on the rooftop of the Hicenth Hotel. He shoots off a firecracker attracting police helicopters. Phantom Theft, in response, perfectly mimics the voice of high ranked officers leaving Conan shocked and stunned, and Phantom Thief himself is surrounded without an exit.
