The Gulf Coast climate is humid subtropical, although Southwest Florida features a tropical climate. Much of the year is warm to hot along the Gulf Coast, while the three winter months bring periods of cool (or rarely, cold) weather mixed with mild temperatures. The area is highly vulnerable to hurricanes as well as floods and severe thunderstorms.
Cedar Key partnered with the University of Florida and was awarded funding in 2022. The results of the flooding vulnerability assessment were presented at a workshop to the Cedar Key community.
