Joan Jett (born Joan Marie Larkin; September 22, 1958) [1] is an American musician, singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. Often referred to as the " Godmother of Punk " and the "Queen of Rock 'n' Roll ", she is regarded as a rock icon and an influential figure in popular rock music .

In 1999 writer Lisa Fancher wrote how Joan Jett "was walking up to Rodney’s one Friday night when she saw a dead body out front, an obvious OD, and nobody was paying any attention at all. The kids just kept walking into the club.
By the spring of 1977, Jackie told Jett that she’d had enough. But she says Jett got on her knees and begged her to stay—and a few weeks later, they set off on an extended tour through Japan, where they were legitimate stars. Hundreds of fans greeted the Runaways at the airport, and their days were filled with photo shoots and TV appearances.
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1979 as a conjunction of lead musician, singer and songwriter Joan Jett and the backup band. It has undergone many lineup changes since its inception, with founders Jett and producer Kenny Laguna being its only consistent members.
Rhythm guitarist/backing vocalist Joan Jett composed the song with Kim Fowley, the band's then-manager.In the documentary Edgeplay: A Film About the Runaways (2005), Fowley and former Runaways lead singer Cherie Currie claimed that "Cherry Bomb" was quickly written just for Currie to audition for the band because the band members could not perform the song she originally chose to sing.
