Contagious infections include parasitic, bacterial, fungal and viral skin diseases. One of the most common contagious parasitic skin diseases is Sarcoptic mange (scabies).
The aim of treatment is to relieve the allergy-induced itch and to remove the fleas from the pet and its home environment. [2] In some cases, secondary bacterial or yeast infections will also need treatment before the itching subsides. The administration of oral or topical flea prevention is also required to kill fleas currently on the animal. [4]
It is particularly used for infections of the skin, respiratory system and mammary glands in dogs and cats, as well as with urinary tract infections. For dogs, a dose ranges from 2.75 - 5.5 mg/kg once a day. The duration of treatment is usually at least five days, longer if there is a concurrent fungal or yeast infection. [4]
