Construction of this airfield began in May 1942. This was another training air field for bomber crews and others who were to man bombers. The last crew training ended in October 1945.
Fort Belmont, in southern Woodson County, Kansas, was built about 1860 near the town of Belmont. It was to protect the settlers there from attacks by Border Ruffians and Indians.
