The Mean Green were led by Eric Morris in his second year as the head coach. The Mean Green played their home games at DATCU Stadium, located in Denton, Texas.
North Texas needed to win the game to clinch the Conference USA West division. UTSA stunned the Mean Green when they won the game 21–13. The Roadrunner win allowed Rice to become the west division champions. UTSA won three of the first four meetings. North Texas got their first win in the series in 2015.

The 2024 UTSA Roadrunners football team represented the University of Texas at San Antonio in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) during the 2024 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Roadrunners were led by Jeff Traylor in his fifth year as the head coach. The Roadrunners played their home games at the Alamodome, located in San Antonio.
