Anji County (ⓘ simplified Chinese: 安吉县; traditional Chinese: 安吉縣; pinyin: Ānjí Xiàn) is a county in the prefecture-level city of Huzhou in northwestern Zhejiang province, China. The county spans an area of 1,886 square kilometres (728 sq mi), [ 2 ] with a population of 461,800 as of the end of 2013. [ 3 ]
The Anji bridge influenced the design of later Chinese bridge structures, such as the similar Yongtong Bridge near Zhaoxian in Hebei. The Yongtong Bridge is a 26 m (85 ft) long stone segmental-arch bridge built in 1130 by the Song structural engineer Pou Qianer. [8] [9] The intriguing design of the Anji bridge has given rise to many legends.
During the Qing dynasty, Huzhou administered 7 counties: Wucheng, Guo'an, Wukang, Deqing, Changxing, Anji, and Xiaofeng. 1949, with the establishment of the People's Republic of China, Huzhou town became the seat of government of the First Special District of Zhejiang, administrative area including the modern Huzhou and Jiaxing prefecture cities.
