Founded as the Hong Kong Yacht Racing Federation in 1962, the HKSF was incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee in 1970 under the name Hong Kong Yachting Association. It changed its name to Hong Kong Sailing Federation in 2004 following the change of name of the International Sailing Federation.

The Rolex China Sea Race (Chinese: 劳力士中国海帆船赛) is a biennial event hosted by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, starting in Hong Kong Harbour and finishing in Subic Bay, Philippines. The race distance is approximately 565 nautical miles (1046.38 km). [1] The first race was held in 1962.
