The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO, Russian: Организация Договора о коллективной безопасности (ОДКБ), romanized: Organizacija dogovora o kollektivnoj bezopasnosti (ODKB)) is an intergovernmental military alliance in Eurasia consisting of six post-Soviet states: Armenia, [note 1] Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan.
The CSTO countries selected the first secretary general in October 1996. Since that time, eight different military/security officials have served officially as secretary general. Four countries have been represented, with five secretaries general hailing from Russia , one from Armenia , one from Belarus and one from Kazakhstan .
On 28 February 2024, during a speech made in the National Assembly, Pashinyan further stated that the CSTO is "a threat to the national security of Armenia". Responding to Pashinyan's remarks, Dmitri Peskov stated that the CSTO charter does not include provisions for a "frozen membership" status. [24]
The CSTO, headquartered in Moscow, also includes Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Belarus. It had said it was waiting for Yerevan to clarify its stance.
