In 1856, Augustus Kountze, then a young banker new to Omaha from Ohio, requested a pastor from the church of his youth. Reverend Henry Kuhns conducted the first Lutheran services in Omaha on November 21, 1858, with 14 founding members. [4] In 1862 the church constructed its first building at 13th and Douglas Streets in Downtown Omaha. [5]

The Gethsemane Lutheran Church sanctuary building is a rectangular two-story hall constructed of tan brick atop a limestone foundation and basement, with a gray pressed tin roof. It features a square bell tower and steeple that rises an additional story from the center front.
Urban Partners first proposed a 37-story residential and retail tower on the parking lot of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church, located south of the intersection of Stewart Street and Terry Avenue, [4] in July 2006. [5] Construction on the tower began in 2007. The project was completed in late 2009 and opened to tenants in March 2010. [6]
