St Catherine's Catholic High School was a Catholic comprehensive secondary school in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England.The school was named after Catherine of Siena.. It was an 11 to 18 comprehensive school, with a post 16 curriculum delivered jointly with its neighbouring secondary school, Holy Trinity Church of England Senior School (now Trinity Academy, Halifax).
St. Catherine's traces its origins to the fall of 1864 when the Racine Dominican Sisters [2] established an all-girls' day and boarding academy. In the fall of 1864, the Racine Dominican Sisters opened a day and boarding school for girls on property they purchased at Twelfth Street and Park Avenue.
A high school for boys, called Kemper Hall, was created later on the campus in 1885. The school was officially closed in 1899. The college property today is the location of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral and Davenport Central High School. St. Katharine's Hall replaced Trinity School for girls, which was located in the parish hall of the cathedral.
St Catherine's was a nominally Anglican school at this time in its history. [1] In 1920 St Catherine's School moved to Williams Road in Melbourne, where 48 pupils were enrolled. Ruth Langley had been joined in 1919 by Flora Templeton, who came as co-principal from Blair School, at St Georges Road, Toorak, with her students. [1]
With the rapid growth and development of the school in the North–East St. Catherine region it became necessary to change the name to Guy's Hill New Secondary School. As the grade ten programmes expanded, a two-year skills training programme was implemented and grade 11 was added.
The school's original name was Catherine McAuley Commercial High School, and it was a continuation of the Mercy Commercial High School which was opened in 1919.
