The Pine Bloom Plantation, also known as Pinebloom Plantation, is a historic site in Newton, Georgia. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 9, 1990. It is located on Tarva Road and County Route 122, 3/4 of a mile south of the Baker County, Georgia/ Dougherty County, Georgia line in Baker County.
The Tarver Plantation, also known as Tarva Plantation, located on Tarva Rd. (Co. Rt. 122) north of Newton in Baker County, Georgia includes a plantation house built in about 1850. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. [1]
Newton was founded in 1837. That same year, the seat of Baker County was transferred to Newton from Byron. [5] There are several properties in Newton listed on the National Register of Historic Places: Baker County Courthouse (Georgia), Notchaway Baptist Church and Cemetery, and Pine Bloom Plantation.
Baker County has been struck by flooding from the Flint River. The old courthouse was built in 1906 and was damaged by the floods of 1925, 1929, and 1994. It houses the public library and the historical society. The current courthouse is located in a 1930s-era school. [2] The old courthouse was designed by J. W. Golucke. [1]
