Al Ain (Arabic: ٱلْعَيْن, romanized: al-ʿAyn, lit. 'the Spring') [4] is a city in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates and the seat of the administrative division of the Al Ain Region. The city is bordered to the east by the Omani town of Al-Buraimi.
Al Ain City Municipality was established in 1967 as Al Ain Municipality Town Planning Department, almost four years before the unification of the United Arab Emirates. In 2005, it was merged with the Department of Municipalities and Agriculture.

Al Ain is an adjacent city on the UAE side of the border. Both settlements are part of the historical region of Tawam [3] or Al-Buraimi Oasis. [4] For many decades, there had been an open border between Al-Buraimi located in Oman and Al-Ain.
