Jeremiah Kpan Koung (born 17 March 1978) is a Liberian politician who is the 31st and current vice president of Liberia. He served in the House of Representatives of Liberia from 2012 to 2020, and was elected to the Senate of Liberia in 2020. The Speaker of the House of Representatives of Liberia is the presiding officer of the legislature. In the current house, the speaker is elected by the house for the term of the legislature, six years. [1] The Speaker may be removed from their position by a two-thirds majority.
Liberia has a multi-party system with numerous political parties, in which no one party often has a chance of gaining power alone, and parties must work with each other to form coalition governments. Membership in parties tends to be fluid, as the party leader at the time holds significant influence over the ideology the party follows.
