MACS J0152.5-2852 is a massive galaxy cluster. Almost every pixel seen in the image is a galaxy, each containing billions of stars. [1]Galaxy groups and clusters are the largest known gravitationally bound objects to have arisen thus far in the process of cosmic structure formation. [2]
MACS J0416.1-2403 or MACS0416 abbreviated, is a cluster of galaxies at a redshift of z=0.397 with a mass 160 trillion times the mass of the Sun inside 200 kpc (650 kly).Its mass extends out to a radius of 950 kpc (3,100 kly) and was measured as 1.15 × 10 15 solar masses. [2]
The cluster lies around 13,000 light-years distant and is one of the closer globular clusters to Earth. It also lies 17,000 light-years away from the galactic centre. [ 8 ] It belongs to Shapley–Sawyer Concentration Class VI, namely of intermediate density, [ 1 ] and has been calculated to be 11.78 billion years old. [ 6 ]
Nearby to Messier 13 is NGC 6207, a 12th-magnitude edge-on galaxy that lies 28 arcminutes directly northeast. [14] A small galaxy, IC 4617, lies halfway between NGC 6207 and M13, north-northeast of the large globular cluster's center. At low powers the cluster is bracketed by two seventh-magnitude stars. [15]
