Lake Hodges is a lake and reservoir in San Diego, California. It is about 31 miles (50 km) north of downtown San Diego , just north of the Rancho Bernardo community, and just south of the city's border with Escondido .
The Lake Hodges Pedestrian Bridge, officially named the David Kreitzer Lake Hodges Bicycle Pedestrian Bridge after a retired planning commissioner, [1] is a pedestrian bridge spanning Lake Hodges immediately south of the Interstate 15 span. The bridge was opened to the public on May 15, 2009.
Andrew Jackson Hodges Sr. (1890–1966), a native of Cotton Valley in Webster Parish, purchased more than 100,000 acres (400 km 2) of cut-over barren land and replanted 39,000 acres (160 km 2) in timber. The land included an old quarry. Hodges and his wife, the former Nona Trigg, planned a scenic garden around the natural rock formations.
It does not sit on a river or stream but is supplied with water by a system of pumps and pipes. The dam is connected to Lake Hodges and the Second San Diego Aqueduct.
