Paul Lorin Kantner [1] (March 17, 1941 – January 28, 2016) was an American rock musician. He is best known as the co-founder, rhythm guitarist, and a secondary vocalist of Jefferson Airplane, a leading psychedelic rock band of the counterculture era.
Kantner passed away on Thursday (Jan. 28) of multiple organ failure, following a heart attack earlier in the week.

Jefferson Airplane was formed in mid-1965 by vocalist and guitarist Marty Balin.He selected rhythm guitarist and vocalist Paul Kantner, to join the band, the two men then recruited the remaining initial members: vocalist Signe Toly Anderson, lead guitarist and vocalist Jorma Kaukonen, double bassist Bob Harvey and drummer Jerry Peloquin. Signe Toly was born in Seattle, Washington on September 15, 1941. [2] Her parents divorced when she was three, and her mother raised her in Portland, Oregon. [3] Toly sang in a band with three male musicians she had known in high school, under the name Three Guys and a Gal.
