In the 1930 renumbering of state highways in New York, an alternate route of NY 17 from Mayville to Jamestown was designated as NY 17J from Mayville to Ashville and part of NY 74 from Ashville to Jamestown. [11] [12] In the mid-1930s, NY 17J was extended eastward to rejoin NY 17 at Washington Street in Jamestown, creating an overlap with NY 74.

Celoron Park was an amusement park, built by the Broadhead family in either 1893 or 1894, prior to the formation of the village. [3] [4] Celoron Park was designed with inspiration from the amusement parks at Coney Island and Atlantic City. [3] Celoron Park closed in 1962. [3] The village of Celoron was incorporated in 1896.
Access to and from Interstate 86 is available via exit 13, just east of the village. County Route 65 enters the village from the southeast. Falconer is unusual among villages in the area in that its speed limit is 25 miles per hour, the lowest of any village or town in Chautauqua County; Route 394 has a 35 mile-per-hour posted speed limit.
