It has a revolving hydraulic crane with an extending boom that can extend from 10–18 ft with a maximum lift capacity of 20,000 lb with outriggers and boom jacks to the ground.
Knuckle boom crane arms are much lighter than boom truck cranes, and they are designed to allow for more payloads to be carried on the back of the truck that it is mounted on. The majority of them are mounted behind the cab and leave the entire bed of the truck empty.
Although the truck was not meant to carry a load, the boom could support 7,000 pounds (3,200 kg) when towing. They had 20,000 pounds (9,100 kg) front and 45,000 pounds (20,000 kg) rear winches, outriggers, boom braces, and special extra-heavy duty rear springs for stability.
The capacity range is between 10 and 40 t (9.8 and 39.4 long tons; 11 and 44 short tons) as a maximum lift, although this is much less as the load gets further from the front of the crane. Pick and carry cranes have displaced the work usually completed by smaller truck cranes, as the set-up time is much quicker.
