The cane toad is a terrestrial animal.. Terrestrial animals are animals that live predominantly or entirely on land (e.g. cats, chickens, ants, spiders), as compared with aquatic animals, which live predominantly or entirely in the water (e.g. fish, lobsters, octopuses), and semiaquatic animals, which rely on both aquatic and terrestrial habitats (e.g. most amphibians).
Habitat can be defined as the natural environment of an organism, the type of place in which it is natural for it to live and grow. [4][5] It is similar in meaning to a biotope; an area of uniform environmental conditions associated with a particular community of plants and animals.
The two species share the same ecological niche, and are thus in competition with each other. Interspecific competition, in ecology, is a form of competition in which individuals of different species compete for the same resources in an ecosystem (e.g. food or living space). This can be contrasted with mutualism, a type of symbiosis.
Description. The four main types of aquatic animals: neustons, planktons, nektons and benthos. The term aquatic can be applied to animals that live in either fresh water or salt water. However, the adjective marine is most commonly used for animals that live in saltwater or sometimes brackish water, i.e. in oceans, shallow seas, estuaries, etc.
