White Read Aloud Award was established in 2004 by The Association of Booksellers for Children (ABC) to honor books that its membership felt embodied the universal read aloud standards that were created by the work of the author E. B. White. In 2006 the award was expanded into two categories:
Best Illustrated Book to Read Aloud, 2004 to 2006; Best Book with Facts, from 2003; Best New Information Book, 2002; Favourite Story, 2011; Book I Couldn't Put Down, 2000 to 2010; Three books in each category were announced 4 December 2014 and considered by the panel of 200 children from 10 schools.
