Tromsdalen Church or the Arctic Cathedral (Norwegian: Tromsdalen kirke, Ishavskatedralen) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Tromsø Municipality in Troms county, Norway. It is located in the Tromsdalen valley on the east side of Tromsø .
Jan Inge Hovig (11 May 1920 – 4 July 1977) was a Norwegian architect. [1]Hovig was born in Verran Municipality in Nord-Trøndelag county, Norway. He was the son of Johannes Sigurd Hovig (1895–1953) and Gudlaug Pauline Taugstad (1900–1969).

He was the firstborn of three sons and the namesake of his father Peter Gusenberg (Gusenberger) Sr. who was a first-generation Roman Catholic emigrant from Gusenburg, a municipality in the Trier-Saarburg district, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany and his wife.

Minnekirken was first built by Norwegian immigrants as Kristus Kirken (Christ Norwegian Lutheran Church) in 1906. Its original congregation lost the church during the Great Depression, but a new congregation was formed, and the church was purchased in 1934, changing its name to Minnekirken (Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church).
