Fisher Island is a census-designated place in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States, located on a barrier island of the same name. Since 2015, Fisher Island has the highest per capita income [5] of any place in the United States. It is located in the Miami metropolitan area of South Florida. As of the 2020 census, the population was 561.
The island of Indian Creek was said to have been created in the 1900s, due to excavation of drainage for Biscayne Bay and was an uninhabited and underdeveloped mangrove forest until 1928, when the country club and housing lots were established after a group of Midwestern businessmen bought the island as a real estate venture. The total area of the islands is 314,965 km 2 (121,609 sq mi). [1] Great Britain accounts for the larger part of this area at 66%, [ 2 ] with Ireland accounting for 26%, [ 3 ] leaving the remaining 8%—an area of 23,996 km 2 (9,265 sq mi)—consisting of thousands of smaller islands.
