Ehrenberg is located in western La Paz County and is located on the Colorado River, which forms the border between Arizona and California. The community is along Interstate 10 , which leads east 145 miles (233 km) to Phoenix and west 100 miles (160 km) to Indio, California .

The northern portion of the mountains can be accessed from the west via Arizona State Route 95; from the east through the Colorado River Indian Reservation, and I 10. Quartzsite is in the east center of the range and provides numerous access points. Ehrenberg to the west provides access to areas of the western mountain flank.
La Paz County was established in 1983 after voters approved separating the northern portion of Yuma County, making it the only county to be established after Arizona became a state in 1912, and currently the second youngest county in the United States (behind the consolidated city-county of Broomfield, Colorado, which was established in 2001).
