Vietnam Airlines Flight 474 crashed on approach to Nha Trang Airport on 14 November 1992 during Cyclone Forrest. The aircraft was a Yakovlev Yak-40 registered VN-A449, a three-engined jet airliner built in the Soviet Union in 1976. [1] One passenger survived, while the other 24 passengers and six crew were killed.
5 January 2022: Flight 5311, a Boeing 787-9, registration VN-A868, [20] was departing Tokyo bound for Hanoi and was about to enter Tokyo Bay, when a man called the airline's office at Narita and threatened to shoot down the flight over Tokyo Bay. The flight diverted to Fukuoka and stayed there for about 2 hours before departing for Hanoi. [21]

At 650 hectares, Noi Bai is the second-largest airport in Vietnam, behind the 800 hectare Tan Son Nhat International Airport. Terminal 1, completed in 2001, used to be the sole terminal handling both domestic and international flights. However, with the opening of the second terminal, it is now reassigned to handle domestic flights only.
