Semar mendem which is lemper wrapped in thin omelette. A variant snack almost identical to lemper is called semar mendem. Both are glutinous rice filled with shredded seasoned chicken. Instead of banana leaf wrapping, semar mendem uses a thin omelette made from egg and flour as wrapper, hence rendering the whole package edible.

On 20 April 1999, two areas were separated from the original regency - the southeastern portion was split off to form a separate East Lampung Regency (including all of the regency's former sea coast), while the town of Metro was created as an independent city.

The name change was at the suggestion of President Sukarno who asked the Central Lampung Regional Government to perform the dance at Istora Senayan Jakarta on August 17, 1965. Melinting is a dance inherited from Ratu Melinting which is estimated to have existed in the sixteenth century.
