The Sam McQuade Sr. softball tournament is an annual charity softball event held in the Bismarck–Mandan area of North Dakota.Officially the "Sam McQuade Sr./Budweiser Charity Softball Tournament", this event draws approximately 400 teams from the United States and Canada areas, as well as roughly 15,000 fans that attend the event. The tournament has been held annually since 1982. [1] Cal State Northridge have been the most successful team in the history of the tournament, with four national titles. Of the active Division II members, there are six teams with two titles each. Texas–Tyler are the reigning national champions, winning their first national title in 2024.
A total of 64 teams compete in the tournament. 32 teams gain automatic entry into the tournament while the other 32 are selected by the Division I Softball committee. From this field of 64, 16 teams will be given "national seeds" and placed at one of the assigned regional sites, often the home field of each national seed.
