Hole was an American alternative rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1989. It was founded by singer and guitarist Courtney Love and guitarist Eric Erlandson . It had several different bassists and drummers, the most prolific being drummer Patty Schemel , and bassists Kristen Pfaff (d. 1994) and Melissa Auf der Maur .
Hole released its major label debut Live Through This in April 1994. A critical and commercial success, Live Through This was released a week after the death of Love's husband, Kurt Cobain , and two months prior to the death of bassist Kristen Pfaff.
The full song was released as a b-side to the "Violet" single in March 1995, and re-released on the rarities compilation, My Body, the Hand Grenade, in October 1997. On February 14, 1995, Hole played the song as a part of their MTV Unplugged set in New York City .
