Keokuk / ˈ k iː ə k ʌ k / is a city in and a county seat of Lee County, Iowa, United States. [5] It is Iowa's southernmost city. The population was 9,900 at the time of the 2020 census. [6] The city is named after the Sauk chief Keokuk, who is recognized with a statue in Rand Park.

The Keokuk Young Women's Christian Association Building is a historic building located in Keokuk, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. [1] The local YWCA was organized in 1905 and initially leased space for their activities. The land for this building was donated by Gerard Huiskamp.

The church was built by Hugh V. Gildea from Dubuque with the help of Father Galtier. A future historian of Keokuk, Virginia Wilcox Ivins, remembered seeing the "elegant" priest hammering on the church roof on a hot July day when she was twelve years old. The church building measured 20-by-30-foot (6.1 by 9.1 m) and was 12 feet (4 m) high.
Hugh Sample became the mayor of Keokuk in 1858 and had the house built the following year. He lived in the residence until his death in 1870. [ 2 ] The 2½-story structure was designed in the Italianate style and is considered the finest and most intact example of that style in Keokuk. [ 3 ]
