Chūya Nakahara (中原 中也, Nakahara Chūya, 29 April 1907 – 22 October 1937), born Chūya Kashimura (柏村 中也, Kashimura Chūya), was a Japanese poet active during the early Shōwa period.

He is the head of the Rats in the House of the Dead. His ability, Crime and Punishment (罪と罰, Tsumi to Batsu), allows him to steal the body of the person who kills him. He is also a member of the "Decay of Angels" group, under Kamui's leadership. His intelligence can be easily compared to other characters, such as Ranpo and Dazai.
The first three episodes of the season are based on a light novel prequel that shows how Osamu Dazai met Chuya Nakahara while working for the Port Mafia, while the remaining episodes follow the manga's storyline with the Detective Agency and the Port Mafia being manipulated by a group known as Rats in the House of the Dead.
