Union Free School District of the Tarrytowns, also known as Public Schools of the Tarrytowns, is a school district headquartered in Sleepy Hollow, New York. The district includes most of Sleepy Hollow (within the Town of Mount Pleasant) and a portion of Tarrytown (within the Town of Greenburgh). [1]
In 1890 it became a Union Free School District and in 1892, when the Village of Freeport was incorporated, there were 528 students. [1] [2] The next year the wooden schoolhouse (the village's second) burned, and was replaced by their first brick schoolhouse; [1] that building at the corner of Pine and Grove Streets opened March 9, 1894.
In August 2011 the headquarters moved from 1 Shady Lane to Increase Miller Elementary School in Goldens Bridge. In 2014 the district redistricted its elementary schools so it moved the headquarters back to South Salem. On March 26 of that year the district relocated the Human Resources Department. On March 31 the district moved its Business Office.
