Longwood University's 14 varsity athletics programs, known as the Lancers, compete at the NCAA Division I level. Thirteen of those teams compete in the Big South Conference, while field hockey is a member of the Mid-American Conference. The arena is named after Joan Brock, a philanthropist and 1964 alum, who provided $15 million, the largest gift in Longwood University's history.
