The Tyne Theatre and Opera House is a theatre in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.It is a Grade I listed building, [1] rated "in the top 4% of listed buildings" by English Heritage and is afforded a three star (the highest) rating by the Theatres Trust, "a very fine theatre of the highest theatrical and architectural quality".
In May 2008 the Tyneside Cinema reopened in the restored and refurbished original building. [186] The site currently houses three cinemas, including the restored Classic [ 187 ] —the United Kingdom's last surviving news cinema still in full-time operation—alongside two new screens, and dedicated education and teaching suites.

It began in 1986, as a season of gay and lesbian films at the National Film Theatre for two years, under the title "Gay's Own Pictures", curated by Peter Packer of the Tyneside Cinema. It was renamed the 'London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival' in 1988.
