Taipa (Chinese: 氹仔, Cantonese: [tʰɐ̌m.t͡sɐ̌i̯]; Portuguese: Taipa, pronounced) is an area in Macau, connected to Coloane through the area known as Cotai, which is largely built from reclaimed land. Located on the northern half of the island, Taipa's population is mostly suburban.
The main island is located to the south of the Macau Peninsula and to the east of Hengqin Island of the Pearl River (Zhujiang), Guangdong Province, China. The island has remained unnamed since its creation in the late 1990s, after the reclamation project of Cotai, which filled up the channel between the islands of Coloane and Taipa.
Taipa Pequena is equipped with pedestrian facilities named the Taipa Pequena 2000 Circuit. Open to the public in 1999, it spans a total length of 2300 meters and features three entrances and exits. The Taipa Pequena 2000 Circuit is also the widest path on the island of Macau, serving as a leisure and entertainment spot for residents. [2]
