The Santa Fe Factory Outlets was curated by California-based developer Steve Craig of Ginsburg Craig and Associates in 1990. [1] [2] At the time, the shopping center was one of two outlet malls simultaneously being developed within the state. The New Mexico Outlet Center also opened a complex in Budaghers, New Mexico in 1993. [3]
The Camarillo Premium Outlets would first open in November [13] of 1995, [14] with a further expansion of the mall in 1997. [15] By 2003, the shopping center had attracted around 10 million visitors per year. [16] In 2009, Camarillo Premium Outlets received another expansion after being bought by Simon Property Group. An extensive 1995 expansion added 50 stores, including a Saks Fifth Avenue outlet store called Off Fifth. [2] On December 3, 1997, the mall was acquired by Prime Retail Inc. (now part of The Lightstone Group) for $89 million. [3] A $12 million renovation in 2006 added new tenants and renamed the complex Fashion Outlets Niagara Falls USA. [4]
