In 1427, a captain sailing for Prince Henry the Navigator, possibly Gonçalo Velho, may have discovered the Azores, but this is not certain. In Thomas Ashe 's 1813 work A History of the Azores , the author identified a Fleming , Joshua Vander Berg of Bruges , who made landfall in the archipelago during a storm on his way to Lisbon. [ 16 ]

Ribeirinha is a parish in the district of Ribeira Grande in the Azores. The population in 2011 was 2,349, [ 1 ] in an area of 17.98 km 2 . [ 2 ] It contains the localities Gramas, Lameiro, Ribeirinha, Santa Rosa and Santo António.
Praia (officially São Mateus) is a Portuguese civil parish in the municipality of Santa Cruz da Graciosa, on the island of Graciosa, in the Azores. It still retains its former name Praia locally, owing to the parish having once been the historical municipality of Praia. The population in 2011 was 836, [1] in an area of 12.82 km². [2]

Luz is a civil parish in the municipality of Santa Cruz da Graciosa on the island of Graciosa in the Portuguese Azores. The population in 2011 was 683, [ 1 ] in an area of 11.70 km 2 . [ 2 ] It contains the localities Alto do Sul, Fajã da Folga, Folga, Carapacho, Luz and Pedras Brancas.
[2] Due to its volcanic origin, its terrain is poor, so vines were and still are a very usual crop, so Biscoitos began to be known for its high quality wine, which is made with Verdelho grapes. The village has a wine museum called the Museu do Vinho dos Biscoitos that was established in 1990.
