Bayan Lepas is a suburb of George Town in the Malaysian state of Penang.Located near the southeastern tip of Penang Island, 15 km (9.3 mi) south of the city centre, it is home to the Penang International Airport, the third busiest airport in Malaysia, as well as one of the oldest free industrial zones in the country.

Bayan Lepas is a state constituency in Penang, Malaysia, that has been represented in the Penang State Legislative Assembly since 1959. It covers the southwestern corner of Penang Island , including the old quarter of the town of Bayan Lepas and fishing villages along the island's southern coast.
The Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone (Bayan Lepas FIZ) in George Town was established in 1972, followed by the Perai Free Industrial Zone (Perai FIZ) in 1980. [72] [159] The zones played a critical role in reviving Penang's economy and driving the state's economic growth in the late 20th century.
Bayan Baru is a neighbourhood of George Town in the Malaysian state of Penang. [3] Located 11 km (6.8 mi) south of the city centre, it lies within the suburb of Bayan Lepas, and adjacent to the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone, Relau, Sungai Ara and Bukit Jambul. The township was created in the 1970s following the establishment of the zone.
