Oceana, also known as The Ocean, was a chain of nightclubs in the United Kingdom owned and managed by Deltic Group. The last club in Southampton [ 1 ] closed in June 2021. This decision was made by Rekom after review of the struggling chain during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Swansea Top Rank was built by the Rank Organisation in 1967, and was initially a cinema. In 1972, Leslie Harvey, guitarist and co-founder of the band Stone the Crows, died after being electrocuted on the stage of the club. The club operated under several names before the building was demolished in 2016. [9] [10]
Luminar bought Northern Leisure in May 2000 for £392m with a combined total of 237 nightclubs and late-night bars. In 2001 it opened 41 new venues, 44 in 2002, and 30 in 2003. In November 2003, it consolidated its range of nightclub brands into the four main divisions – Oceana, Liquid, Life and Lava-Ignite.
It was refurbished in 1973 and rebranded as Kingswest. It was refurbished in 1990 and renamed the Event, and then refurbished and renamed Event II in 1996. In 2007 another refurbishment led to it reopening as a part of the superclub chain Oceana [1] and later becoming Pryzm. [2]
